Fabula

A virtual city

The objective of this project was to show how children use to represent in a spontaneous way the idea of the city and the buildings it is made up of, while observing the pure, careful and candid language typical of childhood drawings.

The word “Fabula” stands for the logical and chronological set of events representing the contents of a narrative text that doesn’t necessarily follow the pattern detected by the narrative. This virtual city is a path from which spontaneous stories arise and evolve according to individual point of view.

Composed by 10 students of the infant school of Vigo Cavedine, accompanied by teacher Raffaela Lever

The elements of the city

Architectural buildings

Children have also been asked to reproduce some of the most famous architectural buildings of the last century, following their perception and style.

Kids have been asked to draw a city, as you can see from the sketches here below

The class

Depending on the representations made by the kids, some main elements of the cities have been selected and classified.

Here you find a couple of examples:

The 4 cities

So, four cities have been reproduced following the instructions described so far. First of all, the idea of the structure of a city from the kids point of view, as well as the interpretation of the elements composing the city and the representation of the main architectural buildings.

The results

The totality of these representations creates a virtual city that can be explored according to the personal curiosity. Each building is integrated in the city’s context and supported by a supplementary worksheet describing the main informations and the various representations made by the kids, together with some personal informations regarding the child that has made the sketch.

The supplementary  worksheets

For each architectural building, a lot of pictures and images have been given to the class, in order to provide a wide and clear idea of the buildings. In the supplementary worksheets you will find the drawing of the kid together with the original picture. In this way, it is really clear to observe which architectural details, or color and shape have captured the attention of the kid the most.
